গঠন অনুসারে বাংলা শব্দ দুই প্রকার। যথা : মৌলিক শব্দ এবং সাধিত শব্দ । যেসব শব্দ বিশ্লেষণ করা যায় না বা ভেঙে আলাদা করা যায় না, সেসব শব্দকে মৌলিক শব্দ বলে। যেমন - গোলাপ, তিন, নাক, লাল, মা, পা ইত্যাদি। অন্যদিকে মানব [মনু + ষ্ণ(অ) ], একাঙ্ক (এক + অঙ্ক) ও ধাতব [ধাতু + ষ্ণ (অ) ] সাধিত শব্দ ।

মৌলিক শব্দ : যেসব শব্দ বিশ্লেষণ করা যায় না বা ভেঙে আলাদা করা যায় না, সেগুলোকে মৌলিক শব্দ বলে। যেমন – গোলাপ, নাক, লাল, তিন ।
