In redesigning a cold storage, the length is increased by 30%, the breadth is increased by 50% and the height is reduced by 20%. What is the net increase in the volume of the redesigned cold storage compared to the previous design?

Let the initial length, breadth and height be L, B and H respectively.
Then, initial volume, V = L×B×H
New length = L + 30% of L = L + 30/100 of L = 1.3L
New breadth = B + 50% of B = 1.5B
Height = H - 20% of H = 0.8H
So, new volume, V' = 1.3L × 1.5B × 0.8H = 1.56 (L×B×H) = 1.56V
Net increase in volume = (1.56V - V) / V ×100% = 56%
