ভারতের বড়লাট লর্ড কার্জনের এক ঘোষণার মাধ্যমে ১৯০৫ সালের ১৬ অক্টোবর 'বঙ্গবঙ্গ' হয়। বঙ্গবঙ্গের ফলে নতুন প্রদেশ 'পূর্ববঙ্গ ও আসাম' গঠিত হয়। নবগঠিত এ প্রদেশের রাজধানী ও আইনসভা ছিল ঢাকায়' । 'বঙ্গবঙ্গ রদ' হয় লর্ড হার্ডিঞ্জের সময় ১৯১১ সালে।
