
Thomas Hobbes (1588-1679)
Thomas Hobbes was an English philosopher and political theorist, best known for his 1651 book Leviathan, in which he expounds an influential formulation of social contract theory. He is considered to be one of the founders of modern political philosophy.

Puritan Period(1620-1660)
The Puritan Movement referred to the desire and goal of purifying the Church of England and Roman Catholic Church form within in contract to the "Separatists" who believed the established Churches could not be reformed and the only hope was to set up separated Churches.
The puritans were a member of a group of English Protestants who in the 16th and 17th centuries advocated strict religious discipline along with simplification of the ceremonies and creeds of the Church of England. Puritanism in this sense returning clergy exiled under Mary I shortly after the accession of Elizabeth I of England in 1558 as an activist movement within the Church of England.
